L-3 Valmarine has received an order from Hurtigruten ASA for the retrofit of a navigation system and bridge consoles on its cruise ferry, "Kong Harald".

Hurtigruten has selected the advanced network based on the NACOS Platinum series of navigation system from SAM Electronics.  The NACOS Platinum integrates Radar, ECDIS, Conning, Tracksteering and Speedcontrol functions which can be controlled from multi-functional workstations. The system on “Kong Harald” consists of 6 Multipilot Platinum workstations and one ECDIS planning station. The upgrade will be completed in March 2011. Console production and replacement is being carried out in close cooperation with ELPRO, Norway.

NACOS Platinum is the newest generation of integrated navigation systems to be used aboard the Hurtigruten vessels.  Earlier NACOS models were provided in 1993 for MS “Richard With” followed by “Nordkapp” and “Nordnorge” in 1996 and 1997 and then “Trollfjord”, “Finnmarken” and “Midnattsol” in 2002 and 2003 and ”Fram” built in 2007. In addition to this,  we have completed retrofits on “Lofoten”, “Vesterålen” and ”Nordstjernen”.

Navigating in the Norwegian coastal waters is a challenging task and we believe that our own high demands for radar performance and navigation functionality will keep L-3 Valmarine  as a preferred supplier of integrated navigation systems to Hurtigruten ASA.
