The L-3 Valmarine Platform Management System is a concept that offers a high level of integration between main control and monitoring systems, such as machinery control (MAS), HVAC control, emergency shutdown (ESD), safety management (SMS) and navigation (NAV) systems.

The concept philosophy is to open for intercommunication on a common backbone, and at the same time maintain the integrity of each sub-system.

Operator Stations are multifunctional meaning that basically any of the sub-systems operational tasks are possible from any workstation. Certain operational restrictions are set e.g. securing that the navigation system is only controllable from the bridge.

The redundant common communication backbone serves as a highway for sub-system communication eliminating the need for several dedicated inter-communication lines. The communication is handled by routers that ensure system integrity.
